The High School Drug
Awareness Program (HIDAP) is a drug education/prevention class presented at
no cost by trained National Guard Soldiers. HIDAP is an interactive,
video-based program that addresses drug prevention, self-esteem, peer-pressure,
good choice making, career planning, and information on how alcohol, tobacco,
and other drugs affect the body and mind. There are four (4) separate courses
that address different subjects (see below). Each course is 3 sessions at 90
minutes each or 5 sessions at 50 minutes each. This course can be modified but
is most effective when presented in its original format. Each course also
includes a pre-test and post-test to determine the effectiveness. The principal
of any school that hosts one of our programs will receive a report on how the
students responded to this class.
Course 500
Course 500 is the most recently developed of our programs. This
program begins with Alcohol, considered
to be the most abused drug in the United States. The course also includes
the topic Marijuana, perhaps the most misunderstood and
controversial drug, since so many people have been led to believe that it is
harmless. Then we address a very popular drug among teens and club goers -
Ecstasy. In our Ecstasy and Other Club Drugs
topic, we also cover Ketamine, LSD and GHB. Our final topic
in this Course is Smoking - The Toxic Truth.
In this topic we discuss the extreme dangers of tobacco and show why it is the
leading cause of death of people of all ages.
